A one-off bespoke 3D-print series, to raise money for the Inspiring Stories Future Leaders programme. All the profit goes to Inspiring Stories charity.

This necklace has a limited release run date, with final 3D-print orders closing on August 31 2021.

Inspiring Stories and HIJ collaborated on the piece, in time for the Festival for the Future Conference in Wellington NZ on 30th July - 1st August.

About Future Leaders

The Inspiring Stories-backed Future Leaders programme supports young people in rural and provincial New Zealand to explore the issues affecting their future, to build their entrepreneurship and leadership skills and to make a difference in their own backyard. Future Leaders is a free, accessible and inclusive programme. It provides life-enhancing opportunities for a diverse range of rangatahi aged 16–25. Participants tend, predominantly, to be both Māori, and young women.

About the design

This piece was inspired by the distinct Inspiring Stories' dialogue box and inclusive kaupapa. It’s a message for wearers to take ownership of their vision to change the world. Play-spinning the necklace reveals a secret message. The hands on the necklace are sign language for “Inspire”.

So - if you're not getting the inspiration you need - this is a reminder to play, relax and see what emerges.

3d printing process

It all started with a sketch. Then we made a 3D model in CAD (computer aided design) software. The piece was 3D printed in wax, then cast in sterling silver. A few iterations were made to refine the design and to finalise the bespoke piece that will now be made to order.

3D printing gives us an alternative the fast fashion industry which is proving harmful to our environment. Making to order encourages us to think about our behaviour as consumers, and to take the time to make conscious fashion decisions and buy quality things we each really love.
